The Directorate was established in the year 2011. The Head of the university, then known as Kumasi Polytechnic, was the Rector, Prof. N. N. N. Nsowah-Nuamah. The First head of the international Office then was called Dr. Patricia Darko.  Dr. Patricia Darko was succeeded by Rev. Dr. John Opoku. Rev. Opoku handed the office over to Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, who also handed over to Prof. Sarfo Mensah in the year 2022. 

The population of international students in the Institution at the time of establishment was less than five. Currently the University has international students’ population of over Seventy. 

The Directorate has grown from management of less than five collaborations in the year 2011 to managing over sixty collaborations across the globe.
